Bing Takes UK No.2 Spot

Tuesday, 09 June 2009 03:04

Bing, Microsoft’s new search engine, has already overtaken Yahoo to become the UK’s second most popular search provider.

According to Hitwise UK, on its launch date of 3 June Bing received 10.8% of all UK search engine traffic, ahead of both Yahoo and Ask. The search engine was also the eighth most visited site in the UK on 2 June, ahead of all BBC properties.

Traffic to the site since has declined — on 6 June 2009 it accounted for 3.1% of search engine traffic — but it remains above Yahoo and Ask. Average time spent on Bing has also increased to 8.5 minutes, despite the decrease in traffic.

HONG KONG (AdAge.com) -- China's government has pulled the plug on yet another Western website, making Twitter unavailable to most users in mainland China since about 5 p.m. local time (5 a.m. in New York) and infuriating the local Twitterverse, which is already finding ways around the block.

Microsoft launch new search engine Bing

Friday, 29 May 2009 20:41

Microsoft has unveiled Bing as its much anticipated new search platform, as the company reiterates its ambition to overtake Google as the leading search engine.

Bing, which launches officially on 3 June and replaces Microsoft’s three-year-old Live Search offering, is designed to be a semantic-based search engine, which understands the context of a query being posed to provide the most relevant results available.

The company says it aims to solve the problem that sees 50% of search queries “failing to meet consumers needs”, according to Microsoft Advertising UK commercial director Chris Ward.

Give Print a Chance

Hype, not reality, is hurting the print business.

By Jane Ottenberg 04/29/09

I love digital. I love videos. So much that we are changing our name from The Magazine Group to TMG. We’re performing all sorts of non-traditional media services for our clients. But I am sick of hearing that magazines are dead. The hype is what’s killing magazines, not the reality—particularly when it comes to highly targeted magazines, which is what we do.

Fact: This very week we were contacted by two Fortune 1000 companies that want to launch a magazine. And it happens all the time. Are these marketers out to lunch?

Did you know..?

On average, customer magazines keep a consumer's attention for 25 minutes, which is signifcantly more than the eight seconds looking at a poster or 20-30 seconds listening to a radio ad. In essence it compares to fifty 30-second TV ads.
